The Asymmetry of Permission: Machine-Speed Detection and Human-Speed Response in the July 2026 Agent Incident
The July 2026 OpenAI/Hugging Face incident is usually read as AI attackers beating human defenders. The record says otherwise: the defense’s detection fired. What failed was the response path behind it. This paper argues the decisive asymmetries were not capability but diffusion and permission, and uses a first-party limits assessment of a behavioral-detection system I built to show the blind spots the incident broke are structural, not one builder’s.
